Are you familiar with Braitenburg's "Vehicles"? It was my first (well, only :) exposure to analog circuits doing clever computational things for cheap.

We used it in a cognitive systems course to discuss how people perceieve intentionality in others.

Actually, I do have the Braitenburg book on my shelf, which I think I started but never finished because it had been superseded by other stuff that I was reading about. If you think it would be useful, I'll put it on the list of books to review (I seem to remember it's very thin!)
