Because she regards a technical background as being important for good science journalism, in 1999 she founded a course at the University of California at Berkeley called Writing for the Technical Press. Taught through the College of Engineering, the course was only open to students doing science and engineering degrees.
She now lectures in technical writing and communication to students at Imperial College London, both through the EEE Department and the Graduate School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.She also teaches short courses at SPIE conferences.
