Gillian and Hogarth

Gillian and Hogarth

This is a photograph of Gillian Patterson, Patrick's partner, who died some seven years ago. According to Bob Spence, the cat is called Hogarth and there is an interesting story attached to him. Apparently Gillian and her parents used to live in the Royal Society of Literature building. Bob has a copy of a document in which the Fellows of the society---including some very well-known signatories---proposed Hogarth for Fellowship.

Patrick at work

Patrick at work

Patrick at his terminal at MIT in 1984. Stephen Little who submitted the photo recalls a discreet label that declared the monitor to be the property of the US Navy, which says something of the Media Lab's eclecticism.

Patrick with his car

Patrick with his car

Patrick with his Pontiac: as Stephen Little says, retro even in 1984, though he believes he used it in moderation.
